"We Care" - Awareness Walk on the Need for First-aid Training
On the morning of 18th the January, 2008, at 7:00 a.m. a rally was organized by ALERT. The rally was intended to spread the awareness, on the need for first-aid and emergency care training. About two thousand to three thousand people participated in this walk making it a grand success.
To begin with the gathering was addressed by the secretary of ALERT, Mr. Rajesh Trivedi, followed by the principal of MOP Vaishnava College for Women,
Dr. Nirmala Prasad. The Chief Guest, Mr. Vidhyakar, founder of Udavum Karangal, was then requested to share a few words. The participants were also addressed by Mr. Rama Subramaniyam, Judge, High Court, Chennai, on the importance of equipping ourselves with the knowledge of first-aid and emergency care. Concluding the initial talks Mr. Kandaswamy B, Kavithalaya Productions, spoke about the role being played by ALERT in getting to the society this awareness on how to help and when to help a person in emergency.
The rally was then flagged off by Mr.Vidhyakar. Starting at Gandhi Statue, Marina Beach, and the walk culminated at the Labor Statue covering a span of 2 km roughly.
In expression of their support and involvement towards this noble cause, various hospitals in the city like the Apollo hospitals, Chetinad Hospital, Bilroth Hospitals, Lifeline Group of Multi Speciality hospitals had their ambulances participate in the rally.
ALERT, strongly believing in the preventive steps of equipping one and all in first-aid training, hopes to reduce the number of lives that are lost due to lack of timely help in the numerous medical emergencies across Chennai.[BACK to NEWS]
